Edward Hilsum has become the first ever winner of the ‘Children’s Entertainer of the Year’ Award from The Magic Circle, the world’s most prestigious magic society.
His accumulated votes from three professional judges and those of over 50 children in the audience at The Circle’s theatre in London were enough for the 28-year-old to beat five other finalists to the title.
Edward is presented his award by Terry Herbert
Edward, who is our current ‘Stage Magician of the Year’, said afterwards: “I was stunned and delighted to be presented with this award by Terry Herbert, the great children’s entertainer after whom the award is named. I’ve always felt that the best way to entertain children is to treat them like adults. In fact, the illusion, story and sleight of hand that these youngsters enjoyed came straight from my adult repertoire.”
Edward, from Greenhithe, Dartford, has had his own successful show in Las Vegas, starred in the Champions of Magic show and had successful runs at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Edward beat Dave Allen – Magic Dave – into second place with Mike Fairall – Magic Mikey – in third place. The other finalists were Quentin Reynolds, Martin Cox – Mr Biscuit – and Natalia Love.
The event was organised by, and the brainchild of, Andy Clockwise who said: “The event was the brainchild of Andy Clockwise, who said “That was an incredible afternoon – I have never before experienced such an atmosphere in The Magic Circle theatre, so much laughter and excitement, it was fantastic.”
