The Magic Circle History Day

The Magic Circle History Day will take place on Saturday 6th June 2026, at The Magic Circle Headquarters in London. This is a day devoted to learning more about magicians’ past lives and other aspects of magic’s rich heritage. Included in many of the talks will be the performance of tricks.

As in previous years, leading magic historians and researchers will share their findings that have shaped magical history. Among this year’s line-up of brand-new speakers for this event are:

Salvatore Rapacciuolo (Italy) — the remarkable history of the “fast and loose” con game, with demonstrations of its many ingenious variants.
Nikolaas Martens (Belgium) — a deep dive into Benevol’s spirit head: the mind-reading marvel that captivated generations (and still astonishes today).
David Wood OBE — 2026 recipient of an Olivier Industry Recognition Award, sharing insight into children’s magic legend Billy Day.
James Green — the author of the acclaimed Colditz Conjurer tells the powerful story of a tragic victim of the Nazis, a man who deserves recognition for both his magic and his bravery.
There is also the welcome return of Paul Kieve, arguably the world’s leading authority on magic posters, bringing some fresh insights into the subject.

Back by popular demand is the shorter ‘ten-minute’ talk, intermingled with the longer format. Already booked to participate are Steffen Taut, Roger Woods, Will Houstoun and Ian Keable.

Once more, we will finish the day with the opportunity to acquire rare and antiquarian magic books from The Magic Circle Library, alongside a curated selection of magical memorabilia offered by collectors.

Please note: we will not be hosting this day next year, as London will welcome the 2027 European Magic History Conference. So this is your last chance to get your Magic Circle History Day fix for two years!

Tickets remain at £60, including a sit-down buffet lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Members of The Magic Circle can book at the discounted rate of £55. Doors open at 9:30 am, with the first talk at 10:15. The day ends at 6:30 pm.

Places are limited, so we recommend registering early.
